Monthly Math Challenge for December :

I hope your bedtime math stories went well from last month. There was very positive responses from members. It is so good to hear about children being excited about math. That spark is being lit. Hooray!

December's Math Challenge: Make a Math Advent Calendar and count down to the holidays.

It doesn't matter which holiday you celebrate ( or don't celebrate), you can choose how many days to put on your paper chain and start the countdown (you get to choose the day to count down to).

Each day your child will read a holiday themed story problem and then take that link of the paper chain until they are gone!

Follow these guidelines:

1. Print off the K-2 or 3-5 grade level paper chains and assemble them. Hang your paper chain somewhere you can see it so you remember.

2. Some story problems may be easy and some may be difficult. Remember that the benefit of working with your child is that you can use paper and pencil or objects to demonstrate how to solve the problem. The experience of solving the problem is the most important thing at this point.

3. The story problems are based on: Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Hannakah. A short summary of these holidays can be found at the end of the Advent Calendar print out.
