Old Fireworks are full of arrays!
In the evening, as we stared at our beautiful view we noticed a pattern. Each rocky mountain was bigger than the one before and the trees on each mountain increase as the mountains grow larger.
Here we completed the growing pattern. The kids sketched this on their scavenger hunt page!
Another cool math game is to give different value to items (in this case rocks) and then added the total. If the rocks are each worth 10, then we will get 100. If they each have the value of 20, then we will get 200. It becomes easy to predict 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100...without counting each one!
Things that come in groups line the beach. Bugs, Shells, Plants, Sea Life all have very specific details that often form in groups. Multiplication is the adding together of groups. So we can learn about multiplication. For example, these starfish all have 5 legs. Making a number sentence really helps kids understand multiplication!

As with any activity, it's important to establish guidelines. Your scavenger hunt rules will need to keep in mind the age of your child and the location of the hunt.
Here a a few guidelines to follow to make this experience enjoyable:
1. Each child must complete their mission.
2. Each child must know what type of prize there is at the end (it can be anything you come up with...I like money (a dollar).
3. Depending on the age of your child and environment you will need to accompany your child on the hunt-although you may want to watch from afar until your needed.
4. Dealing with strangers... It's very important to be kind and respectful with strangers.
5. Set a time limit
6. Establish Perimeter and Boundaries for your hunt.
It will take a second to establish the rules so your scavenger hunt will go smoothly.
