1st Grade Math: Addition
- Count and Write up to 1000
- Count forward and backwards 1-100. ( Part 1)
- Count forward and backwards 1-100. (Part 2)
- Recognize patterns like 11,9,7Write/solve all addition facts that involve adding 1, 2 or 3 to numbers and write the equation.(ex. 8+4, start at 8,9,10,11,12)
- Write/solve addition facts that combine to equal 10. (6+4= 10, 7+3 =10. 8+2 =10).
- Answer problems in which you add/take away groups to make more/less and write the matching equation.
- Be aware that the commutative property applies to addition (ex.5+2=7, 2+5=7).
- Explain how fact families are related. (5+2=7, 2+5=7, 7-5=2, 7-2+5.).
Dear Parents, Here is a quick refresher if you need it: What is a fact family? A fact family is a group of numbers that use the same numbers to make addition,subtraction, division or a multiplication sentence or equation. For example: 3+2=5, 2+3=5, 5-2=3, 5-3=2.
What is the commutative property? The "Commutative Laws" say you can swap numbers over and still get the same answer ... ... when you add: a + b = b + a. Chances are if you are at this website your eager to support your child in math. We will show you how to make a few small changes in your day to help your child develop a love of math for a lifetime.
