1st Grade Math: Addition


Dear Parents,        Here is a quick refresher if you need it:                                                                         What is a fact family?  A fact family is a group of numbers that use the same numbers to make addition,subtraction, division or a multiplication sentence or equation.                           For example: 3+2=5, 2+3=5, 5-2=3, 5-3=2. 

What is the commutative property?          The "Commutative Laws" say you can swap numbers over and still get the same answer ... ... when you add: a + b = b + a.   Chances are if you are at this website your eager to support your child in math. We will show you how to make a few small changes in your day to help your child develop a love of math for a lifetime.   

The activities and games for addition facts on this site are tools for developing 1st grade math skills, you are the only one who can present these activities and games in a way that captures the interest of your child. Your child should be thinking “ I am pretty smart...I get this stuff pretty easy”. 

Approach math with a sense of eagerness to learn and curiosity about how numbers works....it is contagious.   Have fun motivating and learning with your child!
