Scavenger Hunts are a long time favorite among children and adults. Scavenger hunts are motivating, engaging, and just plain old fun. They are a perfect vehicle for learning.

Blindfolded Scavenger Hunt (released August 2012)
Scavenger Hunt 101:
Materials: Clipboard, Pencil, Kid
1. Find a space to huddle before the hunt starts. Explain the items and definitions on the Scavenger Hunt List. Ask any questions. Give out change if the hunt calls for something that costs money . Set boundaries ( physical and social) and a time limit. ( boundaries will vary on the age of your children- I follow my young guy from a comfortable distance). If you have two younger kids you can all hunt together- that works too!
2. Let the games begin. Stick to a time limit. If they need more time then you can meet up and set another time limit.
3. Meet up and debrief. What did they find? I ask my kids to explain each item and how it fits the description. Mentally I take note of which concepts they do understand and which ones need work! I tuck that information into my brain for later!
