Division Games and Activities

Division Games.........Before the Worksheets

5's- Divisibility Rule:

A number is divisble by 5 if.......
if its last digit is a 0 or 5.

For example:
20, the last digit is 0, so 20 is divisible by 5.
16 , the last digit is 6, (not a 0 or 5) so it is not divisible by 5.

This is a "no brainer" so your child will probably need nothing more than a reminder.

Although there are not tons of division games for 5, here is a chant to help your child remember the divisibility rule for 5:

There is no need to fidget
numbers can be divided by 5
if 0 and 5 are the last digit!

6's- Divisibility Rule:

A number is divisible by 6 if.......
it passes the divisibility rule 2 and 3 ( since 6 is a multiple of 2 and 3).

That means that it has to be even and if you add the digits together the sum is divisible by 3.

For example:
218: (1). it is even and (2). 2 + 2 + 8 = 12 .....12 is divisible by 3.
Therefore, 218 is divisible by 6!

Division Games:

Bill:

When you are at a restaurant ( fast food or sit down), take a look at the bill with your child. Is the total divisible by 6? Use the 2 and 3 test to determine if the total is divisible by 6. It takes seconds but, provides reinforcement for this strategy.

Shoot 'EM

Use sticky notes (use the super sticky kind) and write large numbers on them ( 4356, 3214). Post them on a window or wall. Have your child use a Nerf gun or soft ball to shoot/throw at the sticky notes. Whatever number they shoot or hit is the number they put through the 2 and 3 test to determine if it is divisible by 6. Take turns with your child.....it is super fun!

7's- Divisibility Rule:

A number is divisible by 7 if.......

Well..there is not a specific rule for 7, but if the number is a multiple by 7 then it is divisible by 7. An easy way to learn the multiples of 7 is by singing the skip counting song below. You will need to remind your child that they can use the song...and that a number that is divisible by 7 is a multiple of 7.

Here is the skip counting song for 7's:

Sing to the tune of " The Wheels on the Bus"

The 7's on the bus go (the wheels on the bus go)
7,14 7, 14, 7 ,14 ( go round and round, round and round, round and round)

The 7's on the bus kick out 63, because the bus is full ( the wheels on the bus go round and round all through the town).

8's- Divisibility Rule:

A number is divisible by 8 if.......
the last three digits form a number can be divided by 8.

For example:

4568: the last three digits: 568 are divisible by 8 so 4568 is divisible by 8.

For example: 45567: the last three digits 567 are not divisible by 8 so 45567 is not divisible by 8.

Well..there is not a specific rule for 8, but if the number is a multiple by 8 then it is divisible by 8. An easy way to learn the multiples of 8 is by singing the skip counting song below. You will need to remind your child that they can use the song...and that a number that is divisible by 8 is a multiple of 8.
