Multiplication Games

Multiplication Games that teach your child to:

Multiply by 5

5's

Clock Strategy

The easiest way to think about 5's is by looking at the clock.

In fact, teachers often call these "Clock Facts". Can your child count to 60 by 5? That's the 5 times table. Take a clock off the wall and point out to your child that the clock has twelve groups of 5.

There are 5 minutes in between each number. So when the clock is on 2...it has past 2 groups of 5's and of course that is ten. The important thing is that you are giving them a tool so, if they get stressed and "forget," they can always go back into their own brain for the answers.

When my children were learning their facts, I would ask them what time it was. They would say 12:15, then I would say "how many groups of 5 make 15?". Do this a few times a day and they are memorized!

In the future if your child can't remember a 5 fact they can just think "clock facts".

Hands and Feet strategy

This is as simple as it sounds. Counting by 5's on your body. Hand (5) -Hand (5) -Feet (5) -Feet- (5). 5 x 4 = 20. Next continue counting by 5's by hands and feet ( this can be really fun if your in a room with other people).

Skip Counting

Practice Skip counting regularly:

For 3 × 5, 5, 10, 15, ...3 × 5 = 15

For 5 × 5, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, ...5 × 5 = 25

For 8 × 5, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, ...8 × 5 = 40

Fun Fact:

5 facts always end in 0 or 5.
