Division Games and Activities
Division Games......Before the Worksheets
Know how to divide single digits 1-30 with AND without remainders and powers of ten: 10, 100, 1000.
(1). Review division facts 1-12.
(2). Knowing the divisibility rules will help your child know immediately whether a number is divisible with or without remainders. No one likes to follow rules, but these are good rules, they allow you to do less work!

2's- Divisibility Rule:
A number is divisble by 2 if.......
it is an even number.
The number is even if ends in 0,2,4,6, or 8.
Division Games:
SLAP:
Use a deck of cards. Divide cards face down evenly between two people (or more). On the count of 3 both players turn a car face up and place it in the middle. Each player tries to combine the cards so the number is divisible by 2 (an even number). If the number is even, whoever slaps the cards first gets those cards. If it is not divisible by two it goes in the discard pile. How fast can you get through the whole deck?
Use a hundreds chart:
Highlight all numbers divisible by 2 in one color!
Even number hunt:
Find as many numbers that are divisible by 2 in your house. To add some fun, let your child use a camera (I use the one on my phone) to take pictures of all the numbers they find- then count how many they collected!
3's- Divisibility Rule:
A number is divisble by 3 if.......
the sum of its digits can be divided by 3.
For example:
35 (add 3 + 5 =8), 8 cannot be divided by 3 so it is not divisible by 3.
93 (add 9 + 3), 12 can be divided by 3 so it is divisible by 3.
Division Games:
Passing Numbers:
Add up numbers you pass as your driving to see if they are divisible by 3. We add gas prices. For example, gas is $3.42 a gallon (3 + 4 + 2 = 9), 9 is divisible by 3 ( if I didn't know that I could sing the 3 skip counting song).
Skip Counting Song:
3's
3,6,9, and 12 (Row, Row ,Row your boat)
15, 18, 21 (gently down the stream)
24 and 27 (Merrily, Merrily Merrily, Merrily)
30 -I Say "thirtiriririririty" ( life is but a dream)
100 chart:
Highlight all numbers divisible by 3- do you notice any patterns?
Retail Tag:
If you are out shopping you can add the digits on price tags and see if they are divisible by 3. For example, Legos are $29.95 (2 +9 +9 +5 =25) , 25 is not divisible by 3 so 2995 is not either. You can make it fun by letting your child use a camera (use the one on your phone) to take pictures of numbers that are divisible by 3. Encourage your child to find huge numbers...really expensive items.
4's divisibility rule
A number is divisble by 4 if.......
a number's last two digits are divisible by 4.
For Example:
212: since the last two digits, 12, are divisible by 4, 212 is divisible by 4.
735: since the last two digits, 35 , are not divisible by 4, 735 is not divisible by 4.
Skip Counting Song:
4's
Mary had a Little Lamb
4,8,12,16 ( Mary had a little lamb)
20,24 (little lamb,little lamb)
27,32(Mary had a little lamb)
36 (thirrrrrtysix) let it drag out (it's fleece was white as snow)
.
Division Games:
Fast Fours
This super fast game can be played on the way to the grocery store, gas station, etc. Look at the last 2 numbers of license plates you pass on the road and shout "YES" if it is divisible by 4 and "NO" if it is not. You may have to sing the skip counting song (below) to remind your child what numbers are multiples of 4. How many numbers can you collect with your child? Who can get the most?
